There is no bigger joy then a breakfast of fresh eggs made in a hurry before the daily rush begins. However this privilege usually doesn’t have people living in apartments in a center of a capital. Buying fresh eggs in the center of Paris, London, New York before the morning shift would take us a lot of time and maybe even get us late for a work.
However, the latest news coming from Paris showed that even people in big metropolis are looking for their own way to enjoy fresh and organic meal.
Last week French ”La Monde” wrote that it is was noted obvious increase in number of sold hens all around the suburb of Paris. Why and where they are kept? Believe it or not, it was made small hen-houses specialized for your balcony or some other place in your apartment.
Although, we have recently written about economic aspects of raising hens in your yard, reasons for raising them at your home lies somewhere else. So called ”urban chicken movement” has more and more supporters mostly because of organic and environmental reasons. It is believed that chickens fed by natural food give healthier eggs and meat of a better quality. Some of researchers are even trying to dispute these claims, but no matter what they say it is always good to know what we are eating and what our chickens were taking.
Despite the fact that chickens are very easy to adapt, before bringing our chicken into home we need to assure place for them. Have in mind that chickens need their own space at least two square per chicken, with a lot of air, not so cold or too warm.
Urban chickens are not invention of a Parisians, this trend spreads very fast all around the world and the biggest cities in USA such as LA and Chicago have already voted legislation that allows their citizens to raise the chicken within the city limits. In Montreal the same procedure was started in 2010, and although some countries are still skeptic with this idea, in a most of them you can buy a hen or two for your home, as long as they are considered as a pet.
